This year’s theme Seed Time Now, drawing from W.E.B. Dubois’s Prayers for Dark People and The Guild Atlanta’s planting framework, carries forward what has emerged during previous assemblies.
Seed Time Now describes the act of practice and preparation; ours is rigor and failure, ours is yield and invention. What seeds have our ancestors already planted that we are called to tend today? What conditions are we creating for new motions to take root? What worlds have already emerged and multiplied as answered prayers? What are we sowing for the next seven generations?
Through discussions and workshops we will strategize the Assembly we are creating, using models of community ownership, community governance, and community resources as guiding principles. We will examine the histories and futures of Black Democracy; its antecedents, practices of Assembly; and emerging experiments in community-controlled municipal revenue.
